Join us around the table as we continue this journey into the Book of ACTS.  Bro. Ernie continue into Chapter 13 a little deeper.  Get ready!

The resurrection isn’t a vague spiritual idea. It’s a claim with witnesses, prophecies, and consequences. We pick back up in Acts 13:31-41 and follow Paul’s logic as he preaches Jesus risen from the dead, seen by many, and proven through the Scriptures the first believers already knew by heart.

We connect Psalm 2, Isaiah 55, and Psalm 16 to the promise that God would not allow His Holy One to see corruption, then we talk about why that matters for real life faith today. Along the way, we share simple Bible study habits that keep you grounded: use a reference Bible, follow cross references, compare passages, and verify anything you hear, even if you love the teacher. We also point you toward free tools like Blue Letter Bible and Bible Gateway if you are building a consistent Bible study routine.

Then the message gets personal. Paul says forgiveness of sins is preached through Jesus, and justification comes in a way the law of Moses could not complete. We unpack what “belief” looks like when it’s more than mental assent, why repentance is a response to God’s goodness, and why Scripture warns us not to despise prophecy. If you want an Acts 13 Bible study that ties Old Testament prophecy to the gospel of Jesus Christ with clarity, this one will give you solid ground and new passages to chase.

Subscribe, share this with someone who wants to understand the Bible better, and leave a review so more people can find the show. What verse do you want us to connect to Acts next? (*Recorded on 8/12/2026)

I would love your feedback and topic suggestions!

Welcome And House Setting

SPEAKER_01

Thank you so much for joining me on the coming to the next one. So on the water, let's see what Jesus has to set. I'm your host, sister Diana. How y'all doing today? Well, look at that lovely crowd. Carbs, it's over. You know what I'm saying? Once the carbs come out, it's over. So yeah, somebody said it's good today. And so we were doing, we were on the simple presentation of the book of Acts on chapter 13, part two, and we had just a little bit more that wanted to go with that. So if you're listening to this and you have not already listened to the chapter 13, part two, the first part, then go listen to that first.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe we could title it A and B.

SPEAKER_01

I will. I will definitely do that. So uh you'll want to go and see the part two A on this first, so and then we'll continue with this. So Brother Earning, everybody's around the table. I think they're going to sleep in the other room, but but we're gonna get it recorded so that you know we can at least they can go back and listen to it later. But anyway, you ready to go? I've never put somebody to sleep before. I don't think it was you, I think it's the food, you know. And it's kind of uh I won't say chilly. It's cool in the house, so it's like comfortable, and they got a blanket in there. And I was like, yeah, they're gonna be snoring like you know bears in a little bit. So, but anyway, we'll feed the spirit man. How about that? We'll feed the spirit man in the classroom, but anyway, here we go, brother Ernie, with a simple presentation of the book

Reading Acts 13:31 Through 41

SPEAKER_01

of Acts, chapter 13, part 2b.

SPEAKER_00

All right, so we're going to pick up here with Acts 13, and we're going to read verses 31 through 41, and then we'll have our little running commentary, and I'll give you my thoughts, and that will end this particular lesson on Acts chapter 13. So thank you for your kind attention, and let's pick it up. Verse 31, Acts chapter 13. By the way, if you happen to read the King James Version, it will be word for word the same. If you have another version, hey, let's just be glad we got Bibles. All right, here we go. And he was seen many days of them, meaning Jesus after his resurrection. And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, God hath fulfilled the same unto us, their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again, as it is also written in the second Psalm, Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee. And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine holy one to see corruption. For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption. Whom God raised again, saw but excuse me, but he whom God raised again saw no corruption. Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins, and by him all that believe are justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses. Beware, therefore, lest that come upon you which is spoken of in the prophets. Behold, ye despisers and wonder, and perish, for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare

Witnesses To The Risen Jesus

SPEAKER_00

it unto you. All right, so let's go back now to verse 31. And we'll read 31 and then after that 32. 31. And he, meaning Jesus, was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. So the resurrection of Jesus was not an unknown report. Go back and read Acts 1, 1 through 14, and use your reference Bible to locate corroborating scriptures. And then when you think on this, we know that the twelve apostles traveled with him to Jerusalem, but we know that he had female disciples that also traveled with him. And we know that there were other disciples beside the apostles who traveled with him, because we know that he sent out the apostles by two on a training mission. Then later he sent out 70 by two. So there were all these other disciples that were not considered part of the original 12 apostles who went with him to Jerusalem. So again, use your reference Bible, whichever you have. Follow the references. And if that's not enough, then get you a New Testament commentary and look into it. So many of these things are now free online sometimes. You know, there's Blue Letter Bible and Gateway Bible, where you can access a lot of things for free that will help you to run down the scriptures to corroborate what we're saying. And the reason I stress that is I know that I will never be enough for whoever is hearing the word of God. If the Spirit of God, if you cannot hear the Spirit of God, if you cannot hear him moving when you're alone with you or in other ministries, and you just think only one person can help you, you're gonna put yourself in a corner to where you can't learn anything. No one of us who handles the Word of God is enough to give you all you need for a healthy spiritual diet. So be wise, pray over the books you read, learn your Bible enough that you know when an author has gone astray. Okay, the scripture says if the blind lead the blind, they both fall into the ditch, that where Jesus said. So if Jesus said that, that means we are responsible for who we listen to and what we learn from them. There is a personal responsibility I have to Jesus, to where I just can't blame somebody else and say, but you said. Well, if I'm talking to Jesus, then I learn what he says. And that being the bottom line, amen. Amen. And he says in verse 32, we declare unto you glad tidings. How that the promise which was made unto the fathers, God hath fulfilled the same unto us, their children, and that he raised up Jesus again, as it is also written. Well, I'm going into 33. So 32 is an incomplete thought. But he says, We're declaring unto you the fulfillment of prophecy. That's the glad tidings. Paul is about to give testimony to the scriptures prophesying to the resurrection of Jesus. And when you read in verse 33, God hath fulfilled the same unto us, their children, and that he raised up Jesus again, as it is also written in the second Psalm. How does that word speak prophetically to the resurrection of Jesus Christ? Because we would read that and say, Well, sure, he was conceived in Mary's womb, where the Lord said, Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee. He is the only begotten son. But there is something about his life that is made new in Psalm 2. And Paul, by the Holy Ghost, puts it together. That's in Psalm 2. You should read the whole Psalm, but then look at verse 7. And also Isaiah 55 and 3. And Anne, why don't you get Psalm 2 verse 7? And then Audia, you get Isaiah 55, verse 3.

Psalm 2 Isaiah 55 Psalm 16

SPEAKER_00

Audia.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I thought that's Anne. That's right.

SPEAKER_00

Anne, I'm sorry. Y'all should look so much alike. I get confused.

SPEAKER_03

I will declare the decree, the Lord has said to me, You are my son. Today I have begotten you.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, but if he's already been born, and he is only begotten son, so this is applicable then to more than the day that he was born. So you need to come back later and read that whole psalm. Right. And then use your reference Bibles. Whether you have Thompson, Schofield, Encyclopedia, Open Bible, those are just the few that you can find out there that are good for referencing scripture to another. Okay? All right, so thou art my son this day of I begotten thee. Let's go to Isaiah 55 and 3, Audia.

SPEAKER_02

Incline your ear and come to me. And I will make an everlasting covenant with you. The son, the sure mercies of David.

SPEAKER_00

The sure mercies of David. When you read the Psalm or 1 Samuel 7, you look for the sure mercies of David and see how you can make that fit, how it fits together. And then one more scripture, Anne. Psalm 16. Read verses eight through eleven. Yes, ma'am.

SPEAKER_03

I have set the Lord always before me because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices. My flesh also will rest in hope.

SPEAKER_00

For my dead body will rest in hope. Hope of what resurrection. Say it louder.

SPEAKER_03

Resurrection. Finish reading. For you will not leave my soul to shield.

SPEAKER_00

The realm of the dead.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Nor will you allow your holy one to see corruption.

SPEAKER_00

But David did die. And his bones did rot. And he did see corruption. And he did see corruption. But this is why Peter preached in Acts chapter 2 that this very psalm is the fulfillment of Jesus' resurrection of the dead. Can you see why I encourage you? Yeah. Get familiar with the Old Testament because your Bible is incomplete if you only understand what you read in the New Testament, and you cannot understand it clearly or see the prophecies fulfilled clearly if you cannot go back and show where the prophecies occurred. Exactly. And this, remember, the law and the prophets, the Psalms, is all that the apostles had to preach Jesus to the unsaved. And out of that they preached faith toward God, repentance from dead works, water baptism in the name of Jesus, promise of being filled with the Holy Ghost, with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. All that's in your Old Testament. Yeah. Prophetically. Yes.

SPEAKER_03

So fall in love with the whole Bible. And then Jesus reiterates everything that was prophesied.

SPEAKER_00

You'll see Jesus pulling from Psalms and Proverbs if you'll get familiar with them.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. So go ahead and finish.

SPEAKER_03

You will show me the path of life in your presence is fullness of joy, and at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

SPEAKER_00

All right. So we're going to pick up with verse 33. God hath fulfilled the same unto us, their children. So the promises that God made prophetically unto the fathers, unto their ancestors, Paul said, are fulfilled in us. How? In that he hath raised up Jesus again. The promise of everlasting life, the promise of the resurrection, is first established in the Old Testament, in the law, in the prophets, and the Psalms. This is why they had no trouble preaching it and teaching it. But if we are not familiar, how many times have I said this? If we are not familiar with God's word as a whole, there is some understanding and revelation that we will never receive. And that's not because God didn't put it out there for us. That's because we weren't hungry for it. They that hunger and thirst after righteousness shall be filled. Are you hungry for the word of God? Are you thirsty for the Spirit of God? Then you devour his word, and you spend time not only talking to him, but listening for his voice. In that he raised Jesus again, as it is also written in the second Psalm, Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee. 34. And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now more no more to return to corruption. He said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. Wherefore saith he also in another Psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thy holy one to suffer corruption. We were just reading those things. And in Psalm or 1 Samuel 7, then, when he promises David an heir who will sit forever. This can't be Solomon. This makes the prophecy that Nathan gives David twofold. It is both earthly and it is eternal. And when you get to David in the Psalms, here he's pounding on that same psalm you were reading, eh? And Peter uses it in his first sermon in the book of Acts to prove that Jesus is the Christ. Yes. And when you get to Acts 2 and 37, and the people are discussing among themselves everything Peter has been saying about Jesus, they come to an agreement that Peter was right. And when they do, they ask, men and brethren, what shall we do? Why'd they ask that? Because they believed. And when they asked that question, that was the confession of the mouth. That's what you're reading about in Romans 10. It's not just empty words saying, Yes, I believed with my heart. I come to the No, it's not just mental assent, it is a decision that God's way is the right way, and I understand I'm not going that way, and now I'm going to. So when we remember something, when you get past the book of Acts,

How Acts Leads To The Epistles

SPEAKER_00

when you start reading the epistles, they're not written to unbelievers for the sake of unbelievers to learn how they should be saved. They're written to the churches to encourage them in their salvation, to help them understand the not just the purpose of profession and confession, but they will teach you all about spirit baptism and water baptism. They will teach you all about a life of good works, they will teach you all about avoiding pitfalls that come to Christians. That's what they're for. They're not written for the lost. That's the gospel's in the book of Acts.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So if you want to see how to establish the church, you look at what Jesus taught in the Gospels, and you look how the Apostles lived it out in the book of Acts. And if you want to see how to maintain your relationship with God and grow it, you go into the Epistles.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. Yep.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so verse 34, and as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption. This is the sure mercies of David. It's not only David's ability to repent and find God's mercy in everything. The sure mercies of David were that he died in hope. The sure mercies are fulfilled in Jesus when there is a resurrection. They're no longer hoping for the resurrection, it's a reality. The reality of the sure mercies of David is more than the concept of coming to Christ, it's rising from the dead to be with him eternally. Okay, now I'm going to read verse 35. Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, thou shalt not suffer thine holy one to see corruption. Knock, knock, knock. Paul, you're preaching the same thing Peter preached in Acts chapter 2. So it's got to boil down to what they need to do in order to not see corruption is to believe, repent, be water baptized, receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, you do not earn it. Audio, if I handed you a $50 bill right now, and it was in an envelope, and I said, This is for you, and you said, Fine, leave it there and pick it up. What good did the gift do you if you never pick it up and walk away with it? No, if you don't believe that there's a 50 in there that you can take home and you can spend and you just leave it on the table. That's how people treat faith in Jesus Christ. Well, I'll just say something and leave it right there. No, you got to invest in it because you believe in it. For David, verse 36 and 37. For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep. He died. Yeah. And was laid into his father's. And he was buried in his grave and saw corruption. And in Acts 2, to make his point, Peter says, and his sepulchre is with us today. In other words, as a historical location in the day of the apostle Peter. They could go to the tomb of David in the city of Jerusalem and at least say, This is where it was. They marked it. His bones rotted again. The prophets wrote David now writing prophetically, but that won't happen to the Holy One. He will not see corruption. And so, verse 36 for David, after he had served his own generation, by the will of God, fell on sleep and was laid unto his fathers and saw corruption. But he whom God raised again saw no corruption. This stuff that you're learning all about the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is not old news. This is a brand new thing. So when you go back and read Psalm, I'm sorry, Acts chapter 2, remember to read verses 25 through 32. Peter Seaman sermon about this. And then we're going to read 38 through 41 now. Be it known unto you, therefore, men and brethren. After you heard all this, you need to understand that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins. Through what man? Say it loud.

SPEAKER_03

Jesus.

SPEAKER_00

Is preached the forgiveness of sin. And by him that is through his death, burial, and resurrection, all that believe are justified from all things. Belief was not just so you can say, in my mind, I believe it has no consequence. If you believe, you then are repentant. And once you lived it into a life of repentance, the blood of Jesus begins working in your life and repentance and water baptism, and you are justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses. How do we know that? Because they came brought bringing back sin offerings every time they sinned. If they were justified with their sin offerings, why are they coming back with another one?

Forgiveness And Justification By Faith

SPEAKER_00

Verse 40 and 41. Beware, therefore, lest that come upon you which is spoken by the prophets. This is something you need to study. If you can't find it, don't do it, don't Google it right away. Don't Wikipedia right away. Use your reference Bible. Use if in your reference Bible, you probably have a summary of the book of Acts. Look for notes pertaining to this. Get a concordance. If a commentary, if you don't, if this don't help you find it, then think about Wikipedia and Google. But always verify what they say with your own scripture. And if you don't have access to all those books, Blue Letter Bible and Gateway Bible are great Bible study apps where you can ask questions like this. And the people who have put that out online, I've had great success using them studying. I recommend if you you you can't afford your own commentaries and you don't have all that blue letter Bible or gateway, and I don't invest in any of them, and they don't pay me any money. They don't ask me that. They're just tools out there you could use. Behold ye despisers. Don't let it happen to you like it happened to the people that received the prophets and yet never believed their prophecy. You could have heard the word and it never bring you any value, because the word without faith is nothing. Behold ye despisers in wonder and perish. Ooh. Why? Because God is going to work a work in your days, which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declared unto you. I'm telling you, though the soldiers went back to Caiaphas and his household and said, This is what happened. The angel came, struck us down, we were frozen for a while, rolled away the stone, we got up, Jesus is gone from the tomb. It was a miracle. They said, Don't tell anybody that. You tell them as disciples stole. They were despisers of prophecy that was being fulfilled before their eyes. Because if it was fulfilled, that meant they could lose their seat of affluence and influence. This can happen to us. We can get so bound up in ourselves that our learning capacity decreases. And we don't want that. So, real quick, we're gonna look at three scriptures and close the day. And First Thessalonians five and twenty. Audio Proverbs one and thirty.

SPEAKER_03

Do not despise prophecies. What do not despise prophecies?

SPEAKER_00

Whether it's old testament prophecy or a new testament prophecy, doesn't matter. Don't despise prophecies. If you don't understand them, it's okay. Say, Jesus, I don't understand. Yeah. And I need to understand it. But don't just spit in the wind and say, I don't need it anymore.

SPEAKER_03

Right. Right.

SPEAKER_00

Don't say a prophetic word is useless. Proverbs 1 and 30.

SPEAKER_02

They would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke.

SPEAKER_00

I'll tell you what I'll do. I'll read Romans 2 and 3 and 4. And thinkest thou this, O man, that judges them. In other words, you self-righteous guy who's judging everybody else for their mistakes, that judges them which do such things, and thus the same? Oh, you're despising the word of God if you're doing the things you know are wrong. You think that you shall escape the judgment of God? Or despises thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and long suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth to repent leadeth thee to repentance? The goodness of God that comes to you as a prophetic word that sees your life and says, You're in trouble, is leading you to the goodness of God. Yes. All right. Yeah.

Do Not Despise Prophecies

SPEAKER_00

So that's all for Acts 13. Acts 13, part two, it has an A and a B, and this is B closing that out. Thank you for your patience. And may the good Lord bless you so much you become the blessing in the lives of others. In Jesus' name.

SPEAKER_01

Amen. Amen. All right. Good uh good tag on that to finish that up for uh chapter 13 part of the book.

SPEAKER_00

I hope that helped me make some things clear and give you some things to study. Good things to say. Jesus help me.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. You know what's funny is because I was in there studying for Bible study tonight and uh and I was reading about justification. Instead of listening to me, I'm so boring. No, I'd say because you were talking about justification. I put people to sleep. Well, there's one person asleep, but but but the other two are fully awake. So yeah. So no, uh, you were talking about justification, and that's one of the things we're studying tonight. It's about justification, sanctification, and all that. So yeah, I love how it all tags in and ties together, so that's an awesome thing. All right, so we're going to leave you uh of this part B today with our tagline to go show some mercy, show some compassion, give mercy, and go be Jesus today. Hey STU family.
